The future of Social Care in England

A new future for social care? Catch up with presentations from our recent event, which discussed how the social care sector can respond positively to current and future challenges. This event included a panel discussion between Rt Hon Norman Lamb MP, Liz Kendall MP, Kate Barker, Yvonne Braun and Dr Dan Poulter MP on the future of health and social care funding in England, and a talk by Jos de Blok of Buurtzorg on whether their innovative model of care could work in England. View all presentations Watch the panel discussion Watch Jos de Blok’s talk Integrating mental and physical health care Working in partnership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, our new research project on mental health in the vanguard sites will look at the extent to which they are realising opportunities for mental and physical health care integration. We are also launching a new learning network, which offers an opportunity for senior clinicians and managers to work together and learn from best practice on integrated approaches to physical and mental health. In the week that NHS England published its plans for implementing the Five year forward view for mental health, here’s a reminder of our 10 priorities for integrating physical and mental health. source: The Kings fund weekly update 26 July 2016...

Laughter Yoga – Fundraising Session

8-8-16 Merrie Maggie Poster – Wordsley Hi Everyone Many of you will know that Maggie worked with Age UK Dudley for many years until she took early retirement so she could pursue her dream to deliver more Laughter Yoga sessions.  Maggie’s role at Age UK Dudley was to encourage older people to keep physically, educationally and leisurely active through their Leap over 50 Project by means of a directory of activities throughout Dudley Borough, Healthy Footsteps for 50 Plus and Get Cycling for 50 Plus.  Maggie spent 8 years working for this organisation where all the staff and volunteers are devoted to making the lives of older people worthwhile and enjoyable …. making the most of later life.  So much passion and compassion goes into all the services provided and Age UK Dudley is very close to Maggie’s heart. You may have seen the local news recently that not only have they lost Big Lottery funding for their Springboard Project (a wide range of activities from photography to dancing) and that the Council is now withdrawing around £300K from their regular funding.  To say it is a major blow is an understatement that will affect thousands of older people in Dudley Borough. Fundraising on a major scale is needed for them to keep going and Maggie proposes to make her regular monthly Laughter Yoga session at Wordsley in August a fundraising session.  Maggie normally asks participants to give a donation to help her cover the room hire charge and for the August session, all the donations will be passed on to Age UK Dudley. This session will take place on Monday, 8 August 2016 from 7.00 pm at Wordsley Community Centre, The Green, Wordsley, Stourbridge, DY8 5BN, in the large upstairs room.  However, if a lot of people attend and the weather is good, the session may be held at King George V park, across the road from the Community Centre or in the main hall if no-one else has booked it. Maggie hopes you will be able to join her and her regular group in order to make a contribution to Age UK Dudley’s fundraising efforts.
