Autism awareness – Effective communication with individuals on the autism spectrum 25 March 2015

This Dudley Council course is aimed at everyone whose day-to-day role brings them into contact with adults with autism or just wants to expand their knowledge in this area.

Participants must have successfully completed the ‘Autism Awareness’ on line course in order to attend and will build on this knowledge as part of this session.

Participants can reflect on their current work practice and consider how this could influence their practice when supporting adults who are on the autism spectrum.

Duration:

 1 x ½ day, Wednesday, 25th March 2015

Arrival: 9:15 pm for a prompt 9:30 pm start. Finish: 13.00

Course Content:

  • How methods of communication impact on individuals with ASC.
  • Aspects of the environment that may impact on communication.
  • Effective forms of non-verbal and verbal communication for use with an individual on the autism spectrum.

Certification:

Delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.

Qualification: (Optional)

Learners can choose to attend a 2 further sessions and complete a written assignment in order to gain an accredited QCF qualification ‘LD210 – ‘Introductory Awareness of Autism Spectrum Conditions’ at a cost of £39.00 which includes registration and certification.

Through Black Country Partnership for Care (BCPC) there may be help in claiming the fee back through Workforce Development Funding (WDF), which supports autism qualifications. For more information contact BCPC on 01902 551083 or email: bcpc@wolverhampton.gov.uk.
