This CQC report looks at the use of the Deprivation of Liberty (DoL) safeguards which were introduced in 2009. The safeguards are used to protect the rights of people who lack the ability to make certain decisions for themselves and make sure that their freedom is not inappropriately restricted. CQC are responsible for monitoring the use of DoL safeguards in all care homes and hospitals in England and checking on the use of them in the places that they have been used.
