Young people and volunteering

Dudley CVS is launching a campaign to encourage more young people to volunteer.
According to Dudley Volunteer Centre records, there has been a significant increase in the
percentage of visitors to the centre in the over 50 age group who are looking to volunteer.
Given the general perception of the nature of volunteering opportunities, this may not come as a complete surprise. But with so many young people struggling to find employment, how can voluntary and community groups make themselves more appealing to young volunteers,
giving them experience and skills to enhance their future employment prospects?

A new Dudley CVS booklet, “The Can Do Guide to Involving Young Volunteers” provides
information on possible ways to bring in young volunteers for the benefit of both the
organisation and the young person. (Story from Dudley CVS Echo April edition)
