Supporting older people after hospital – what role can the voluntary sector play?

In recent years, hospital admissions and discharges have been rising. Research by the Royal Voluntary Service has identified that older people (age 75 plus) often feel anxious, depressed, frightened and vulnerable after being discharged from hospital. Strategies are being developed to help reduce the number of avoidable hospital admissions and focus on out of hospital care and support in people’s homes and in communities. Talks have begun about the potential role the voluntary sector can play in supporting older people in hospital and in their own homes following discharge. Local discussions have already identified opportunities for enhancing patient experience of hospital discharge and new ideas about how the voluntary sector can help reduce the chance of older people being re-admitted. Catalyst Leadership Training – March April (closing date 30 Jan 2015)

Catalyst Leadership Training is a dynamic and interactive programme aimed at young people aged 18-30 who ascribe to a faith or belief and want to change their communities for the better. The programme consists of four training days and a series of local development sessions, as well as an online social media presence to provide participants with the opportunity to stay in touch. Individuals participating will meet new people and acquire new skills and knowledge. There is no charge for the courses and lunch/refreshments will be provided. The training days are in March and April and each one runs from 9.30am to 4pm.
