Nordic walking group aims to promote health and wellbeing

Age UK Dudley has set up a Nordic group following two successful walking and wellbeing events. The group will meet every Thursday, starting on June 4 at the Springboard Activity Centre, Units 44-47 Waterfront East, Level Street, Brierley Hill between 1.30 and 2.30pm (£4 per session). The sessions will be a mixture of general fitness walks with strength, balance and relaxation exercises for all levels.  The class will be both inside and outside, depending on the weather. Age UK Dudley’s LEAP Over 50 project team wants to include Nordic walking in its Healthy Footsteps programme and is looking for volunteers to train so they can lead groups of clients throughout Dudley. Travel expenses will be paid and LEAP offer ongoing support. Other LEAP Over 50 volunteering opportunities include: walk leaders and support, cycling support riders, sport and administration support. Dementia Culture Awareness Training

Mindful Gifts community interest company and Health Smart Midlands have organised a day’s training session to give healthcare professionals an insight into the attitudes, beliefs and culture of South Asian populations. Beacon, the charity dedicated to helping local people with sight loss live a fuller, more independent life, is holding a family fun day to celebrate its 140th birthday.
