Right to rent Home Office survey

The Home Office is asking for voluntary and community sector organisations to help with its evaluation of phase one of the ‘right to rent’ scheme. Since December 1, 2014, private landlords, and their nominated agents, of properties in Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Birmingham have been required to conduct checks to establish that new tenants have the right to rent in the UK. The Home Office is evaluating the scheme’s impact and will produce a final report in late 2015. The findings from the evaluation will help to ensure that the Home Office is aware of any issues that arise in implementing the scheme and identify areas of improvement. The final report will not disclose any identifiable information or individual responses. As part of the evaluation, the Home Office is conducting a number of surveys with voluntary and community sector organisations in the area of the right to rent scheme. It carried out two previous surveys which has provided information regarding the awareness of the scheme as well as any anticipated concerns or benefits from the scheme. The Home Office is now conducting its third and final survey which contains no more than 20 questions and will help understand organisations’ experience of the right to rent scheme and the impact it is having. Groups or organisations which work with, or represent, people who might be affected by the scheme can complete the survey here (by May 31, 2015). The Home Office also wants views from housing associations on the scheme, because there may be impacts on housing associations tenancies (for example where social housing tenants have lodgers or sublet their property).
