How you can help others to tackle loneliness and isolation – take Dudley’s On-line Course
Christmas/New Year can intensify the feeling lonely and isolated. This Loneliness and Isolation course from Dudley Council is for anyone who comes into contact with people who might be lonely or isolated. It will provide an awareness of what isolation and loneliness is, who might be vulnerable, how to spot signs that someone might need help and what you can do to help tackle this issue. It is estimated that there are approximately 32,000 over the age of 60 who are said to be lonely or isolated in Dudley. Evidence shows that being lonely has an impact has the same negative impact on health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. But loneliness and isolation doesn’t just affect older people and according to a recent BBC survey younger people are more likely to feel isolated and lonely than older people. One of the Health and Wellbeing Boards key goal is the reduction of loneliness and isolation in the borough and this is set out in Dudley’s Health and Wellbeing strategy.
