Autism Awareness Training: Characteristics and Individuality

24th September 2015

at The Unicorn Centre, King William Street, Stourbridge, West Midlands, DY8 4ES

starting at 9:30am and finishing at 13:00pm

Target audience:

This course is mandatory for everyone whose job role involves providing support to adults with autism. It is also open to anyone who wishes to improve their knowledge of autism.

In order to qualify for a place learners must have successfully completed the ‘Autism Awareness’ on line course.

 

The overall aim of this training is:

  • To build on the knowledge from the Autism Awareness e-learning course
  • Participants can reflect on their current work practice and consider how this would influence their practice when supporting adults who are on the autism spectrum

 

By the end of the session learners will be able to:

  • Understand the characteristics and theories of autism
  • Gain a better understanding of aspects of the spectrum and associated conditions
  • Understand the implications of sensory difficulties

 

Qualification: (Optional)

Learners can choose to attend a further 2 sessions and complete a written assignment in order to gain an accredited QCF qualification ‘LD210 – ‘Introductory Awareness of Autism Spectrum Conditions’. There is no cost to attend this course or undertake the qualification.

Autism Awareness Training: Behaviour and Person Centred Support

19th October 2015

at The Unicorn Centre, King William Street, Stourbridge, West Midlands, DY8 4ES

starting at 9:30am and finishing at 13:00pm

Target audience:

This course is recommended for everyone whose job role involves providing support to adults with autism. It is also open to anyone who wishes to improve their knowledge of autism.

In order to qualify for a place learners must have successfully completed the ‘Autism Awareness’ on line course and have attended the follow on Characteristics and Individuality taught session.

 

By the end of the session learners will be able to:

  • Understand the reasons for certain behaviours and how the characteristics of autism impact on behaviour
  • Gain an understanding of individual and person centred strategies and interventions to support positive behaviour and minimise behaviour which may challenge
  • Know what to do if an individual becomes highly anxious or stressed

 

Qualification: (Optional)

Learners can choose to attend a further session and complete a written assignment in order to gain an accredited QCF qualification ‘LD210 – ‘Introductory Awareness of Autism Spectrum Conditions’. There is no cost to attend this course or undertake the qualification.

Autism Awareness Training: Effective Communication with Individuals on the Autism Spectrum

3rd November 2015

at The Unicorn Centre, King William Street, Stourbridge, West Midlands, DY8 4ES

starting at 9:30am and finishing at 13:00pm

Target audience:

This course is recommended for everyone whose job role involves providing support to adults with autism. It is also open to anyone who wishes to improve their knowledge of autism.

In order to qualify for a place learners must have successfully completed the ‘Autism Awareness’ on line course and have attended the follow on Characteristics and Individuality taught session. 

By the end of the session learners will be able to:

        • Understand how methods of communication impact on individuals with ASC
        • Gain a better understanding of aspects of the environment that may impact on communication
        • Understand effective forms of non-verbal and verbal communication for use with an individual on the autism spectrum

Qualification: (Optional)

Learners can choose to attend a further session and complete a written assignment in order to gain an accredited QCF qualification ‘LD210 – ‘Introductory Awareness of Autism Spectrum Conditions’.  There is no cost to attend this course or undertake the qualification.
