A service aimed at keeping older and vulnerable people safe and well in their homes, will be out and about in Sedgley later this month.

The living well, feeling safe service provides practical safety, security and wellbeing advice and help for older and vulnerable people; aiming to make sure they keep safe, secure and happy at home.

Living well, feeling safe is a partnership made up of Dudley Council, Age UK, West Midlands Police, Victim Support, West Midlands Fire Service and other agencies.

Staff from the service will be out and about visiting properties in and around Sedgley for three days from 23 to 25 September. Free home assessments will be on offer where advice, tips and practical help will be provided on home safety and security, as well as on keeping comfortable, happy, independent and well in your home.

Home safety and security equipment can be fitted and home and personal alarms will be offered. Advice on general wellbeing, home improvements and adaptations, fire safety and crime prevention will all also be available.

A drop in information day will also be held at The Beacon Centre, Wolverhampton Road, WV4 6AZ, starting at 10am until 3pm on Friday 25 September.

People are encouraged to drop in and find out more about keeping safe, secure, independent and well in their homes. Representatives will be in attendance from a range of organisations such as Age UK, West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service and Dudley home improvement service.

Councillor Dave Branwood, cabinet member for adult social care, said:

“The living well, feeling safe service is ideal for any older or vulnerable person or couple who are feeling isolated or in need of extra support at home, or for people who are simply concerned about safety or security in the home.

“I’d encourage Sedgley residents to take up the offer of a free home assessment, but it’s important to stress that this service is available to people across Dudley borough, so if you know anyone who could benefit then please contact the service directly.”

The service believes strongly in reaching people directly and operates several community ‘out and about’ events each year, covering different parts of Dudley borough.

The living well, feeling safe service offers free home assessments and advice to all older and vulnerable people, across Dudley borough. Home visits are available on request (no referral is needed) and the service can be contacted on 01384 817743.
