A special award was presented to Vicki Phipps, founder of Mindful Gifts CIC, by the Mayor of Walsall for recognition of the work she has done to support people with dementia in the community. Vicki has set up a unique 1950s shop in Church Street, Darlaston which will bound to prompt memories for many, especially people with memory problems. The vintage shop contains a traditional toy shop, grocery stores and sweet shop selling all kinds of favourites from the past including spud guns, carbolic soap and pineapple rock!

Vicki Phipps said “I was delighted to receive the award. Setting up the shop was a huge risk. However, when people come in and say ‘wow’, I know then I did the right thing. Families can bring in their loved ones and enjoy a cuppa out of our best china tea sets and to see the smile on people’s faces when they are remembering the past is very rewarding!”

The shop can be found at 1 Church street, Darlaston, Walsall, WS10 8DS and can be contacted at mindful.gifts@yahoo.com or call 01922 495994.

Mindful Gifts CIC is a Community Interest Company which means it benefits the community rather than personal gain.
